Educating the Whole Child:
Mind, Body and Spirit.
Over the summer break, you will be reading the first novel for our first module. There will be an assignment that goes along with the novel. The assignment is due on the first day of school, August 15, 2022. Assignments that are not turned in on the first day of school will be marked down. You will be borrowing the novel you are assigned and must fill out and turn in the Novel Condition Report. Take note of any damages you find in the novel you receive.
How to Create the “Cereal Box” Book Report
You will need the following materials:
Using the empty & wrapped cereal box, fill in each side as completed. The front side of the box, you will introduce the assigned novel. You must include the title & authors name of the novel and draw your favorite scene from the novel. The drawing of your favorite scene should be colored in. The back side of the box will have two components: the setting & characters. For the setting, you will be creating a map of the different locations. Pick three of the locations present in the novel and write a brief explanation of what happens at that location. For the characters, only include the main characters. Pick three main characters and write a brief description of that character. The right side of the box, you will include a summary of the novel. Your summary should be a minimum of 6 sentences. Do not give away the ending of the novel in your summary section. The left side of the box, you will be rating the book. You will rate the book on a 1-5 star rating. Indicate what you rate the book and explain why you have that specific rating to the novel. Throughout your cereal box project, you should incorporate color for each section.
A general template of each side of the cereal box can be found under the Middle School ELA tab on the Saint Patrick School website.
On the back you will find the rubric that will be used to grade your project. You will be turning in this rubric on the first day of school with your completed Cereal Box project. Please don’t lose the rubric.
If you have questions throughout the summer, feel free to email me ([email protected]). Note that I may not get back to you quick as I will not be checking my email daily.
