Welcome to Spanish class! Spanish instruction aims to familiarize and orientate students into the Spanish language and culture. Students will learn basic vocabulary, sentence structure, adjective agreement and present tense verb conjugations. Equal emphasis is placed on speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The majority of classroom activities are conducted in Spanish and English, although rules and concepts needed to understand grammar are explained in English. In the middle school classroom, different teaching methodologies consist of lecture and note-taking, orals and dialogues, listening activities, reading comprehension and writing exercises. The emphasis for the elementary grades focuses on listening and speaking skills, and most importantly - making it fun! Classroom activities consist of individual response, partner work, and small group work. In all grade levels students will be exposed to the language through a variety of modalities. This course also emphasizes the study of culture, historical events, and current events around the world.
